@chrisheck I bought and returned the Kobo Libra Colour last year to replace my aging Kindle Oasis. The color was interesting, but it darkened the screen for black-and-white text, which, of course, is 99% of what we read. A side-by-side comparison of the Oasis to the Kobo turned me off. I think if this was my first e-reader, I wouldn't have minded or even noticed. The other problem was how plasticky the Kobo felt vs. the polished aluminum and exquisite tooling of the buttons on the Oasis.

I really want to leave the Amazon ecosystem for ebooks, but I'm holding off until a Kobo model is released that is better than what I have now.

What Kindle model are you replacing?

@ReaderJohn I'm with @johnchandler. Such a great collection of stories!

@lmika Oh, nice! Coming from a Sculpt, you should adjust pretty quickly to the Alice layout. Let me know what you think!

@lmika I had wrist issues last year and swapped out my Magic Keyboard for this Keychron Alice mechanical keyboard. I opted for swappable red switches. The feel and sound are amazing. I will never go back to a Magic Keyboard.

@Mtt That worked! Thank you!

@apoorplayer Very insightful. I have felt that same pressure on Wordpress. Thank you, Tom!

@apoorplayer I love your site! Looking back on your years with Wordpress, is there anything you miss now that you’re all-in with Micro.blog?

@manton I’m in the same boat as @peterw. Aren’t server failures fun?

@Mtt I took the plunge to create a dark mode in Bayou. Everything worked great except for the little text box at the end of posts for readers to sign in to Microblog/Bluesky/Mastodon to add a comment. Is there CSS to conform this text box to dark mode?

@rscottjones Your approach makes sense. I’m doing the same thing, minus Obsidian Publish. I’ve been experimenting with fleeting posts on a test Wordpress site, and while it works, it’s a far cry from Micro.blog. I’m trying to fix something that isn’t broken….

@chrisheck I usually create multiple entries per day in Day One. I find writing about a single topic encourages me to go deeper than if I were writing a catch-all entry. Later discover my searching for entries for a specific tag are better, and the "On This Day" layout in Day One seems to encourage multiple entries per day. I love using Day One for traveling and capturing location-specific events where a single entry for the day wouldn't work. Hope this helps!

@writingslowly Catnip is right! Love this.

@lukemperez A beautiful eulogy. Sending healing thoughts for you and your family.

@toribillsfriend.bsky.social Love this.

@rscottjones Hopefully a little nicer paper will work better. I'm nervous buying a nice pen without knowing first how it writes (I have a few of these in a pen drawer somewhere 🙁). I love the idea of reverse engineering this by buying a pen that fits your favorite refill ...

@eeaitch.bsky.social I was right there with you. It took rereading my journals from the previous attempts to quit to realize (for me) that moderation will never work. Going on four years now. You can do this!

@jsonbecker I've had surprising success lately with asking ChatGPT for buying recommendations. It helped me find a really nice pen that accepted a favorite refill and steered me to a terrific hosting provider for my Wordpress blog. At least for now, ChatGPT doesn't have the biases and conflicts that you get with Google or Reddit searches. YMMV.

@robj welcome back!

@rscottjones That is a great looking pen! Let me know what you think.

@lukemperez I am very sorry for your loss, Luke. Prayers for you and your family in this darkest time. From your profile, I see that we might be neighbors (I live near Buckeye). If you ever want to talk with another grieving dad, I am 100% here for you.

@manton thank you!

@manton it's been about 24 hours since I made that category change to Why Blogs Matter, and it's still showing up in personal essays. I thought maybe waiting a day would fix it. Did you notice anything that might explain why it's not updating?

@manton Yes. I just deselected the personal essay category from my post, Why Blogs Matter. I saved the post and then went back in to confirm the category was removed. That should have removed it from my personal essays page, but it's still showing up in essays and in the archive under personal essays on the website.

No errors showing on the Account Log. Let me know if you can see what's happening.

@rscottjones Welcome home! We're taking off shortly for a trip of our own, but will reach out when we're back in town.

@chrisheck Oh, I'm glad to hear you're on the mend.

@rsjon.es Hope everything is ok. Travel safe.

@willowglen.bsky.social Congratulations! You've made it through the hardest part.

@chrisheck Yuck! Hope everything is okay.

@KimberlyHirsh One of my absolute favorite books on writing ... and life. Loved all the quotes you shared!

@chrismatallana Wow, Chris. This is powerful writing. One of the best things I've read in a long while. Thank you for sharing.

@writingslowly Congratulations, Richard! 👏

@Mtt @Manton That did it! You are brilliant! I had deleted the auto category filters as troubleshooting. I will turn those back on.... Thank you, thank you, thank you!

@manton @Mtt No custom theme running. I removed that as part of my earlier troubleshooting. I just changed Hugo from 0.117 per Bayou instructions to 0.91 to see if that would help, but no change. Thanks for digging into this for me!

@manton @mtt That fixed the error message and allowed me to publish a post, but the post is not showing up on the web site. Maybe I have two different problems? You should see a Kevin Kelly quote but it's stuck on a post from a couple of days ago: robertbreen.micro.blog

Good memory, @Mtt!

@Manton: under "Sources and Cross Posting Settings" it shows "unknown error ArgumentError" below the /feed.json section. Refreshing doesn't do anything. Should I click on the delete button to rebuild, or will that cause other problems? I imported posts from my Wordpress site to test the Bayou theme, so it's quite possible one or more of those posts didn't come over correctly.

Thanks all!

@Mtt -Yes, I'm getting this error: "Feed: Unknown exception ArgumentError"

@manton -- I've really enjoyed experimenting with @mtt's new Bayou theme. It has removed one of the biggest obstacles I face with combining my Wordpress and Micro.blog sites.

However, I need some technical assistance. I'm no longer able to publish posts or make any changes to the site design. I've removed any custom themes, deleted all unessential plugins, rebuilt the site, switched between Hugo versions, but nothing has solved my issue. I can reply to existing posts, but everything else is frozen.

Can you have a peek?

@tylerknowsnothing Yes! @Mtt has been doing some amazing work! 👏

@johnchandler Great video, John. I agree 100% with what you've shared. Seeing patterns in my journal over many years has been one of the most important benefits from my practice. I've tagged every journal entry, so reviewing a particular tag - i.e. fatherhood, goals, spirituality - is an interesting way to see how my views have changed over the years (or, in some few cases, stayed the same). Thanks for sharing this.

@gregmoore Nice work! Congratulations!

@tylerknowsnothing Your website looks amazing! Great work!

@rscottjones Yes! Do it!

@musicgirl1965.bsky.social Wow! I hadn't heard of this. I'll watch. Thank you.

@EpiphanicSynchronicity Yes, I know you’re right. It’s totally wishful thinking on my part.

@robertbreen.bsky.social Nice! Can't wait!

@robertbreen.bsky.social Ha! I had to zoom in to make sure that wasn't a photo of my copy! Yeah, physical books are pretty great. And DRM-free.

@numericcitizen I use Readwise images for quotes that exceed the 300 character limit. Otherwise, block quote text is better.

I like your example!

@skoobz I love blog posts like these. I've decided to set aside the fancy leather cover that houses my Field Notes notebook and see if it doesn't get more action in the back pocket of my jeans. And I spent a wonderful hour looking at different notebooks and pens. Thanks for sharing!

@johnchandler I’ve traveled that same road to get all my books in Calibre. It was a process to figure out, but now it’s dead simple. I tried Reader on a Boox Go 10 last year. The reading experience, at least for me, was pretty buggy. I think they were still working through the pagination issues with e-ink. What Boox do you have?

@shiveenp.com Thank you!
